The founder of Uptown Records and CEO of Motown Records, Andre Harrell died at the age of 59. The cause of his death has not confirmed.

DJ D Nice told the sad news while spinning on Instagram Live during his famous Club Quarantine series. Sources have confirmed the news of the death of Harrell, but Variety has yet to receive an official word.

Harrell and his high school friend, Alonzo Brown, formed a rap/ hip-hop duo named Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when he was a teenager. Their three major songs got fame, “Genius Rap,” “AM/PM” and “Fast Life.”
In spite of this early accomplishment in the music industry, Harrell had other professional goals.
He kept on pursuing his studies by going to Lehman College in the Bronx, where he studied communications and business management. He needed to turn into a newscaster. Following three years, he dropped out and went to work for a local radio station.
In 1983, he met the founder of Def Jam Records, Russell Simmons, where he worked, and within two years, he became vice-president and general manager. And after some time, he left and founded Uptown Records.
Harrell was proposed a label deal MCA Music Entertainment Group in 1988, and later, in 1922, MCA proposed Harrell a multimedia deal. The deal involved film and television productions.
