Carrie and Boris Johnson were expecting their second child a few months after the miscarriage, which left her “inconsolable.”

The 33-year-old wife of the prime minister announced the news on Instagram, saying that she hopes to have a “rainbow baby” this Christmas.

She wrote that even though she felt “blessed to be heavy with child again,” she also “suffers like a bag of tension.”

Mrs Johnson gave delivery to the couple’s son Wilfred in April 2020.
The term “Rainbow Baby” is used to describe children born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, or newborn death.

Who is Carrie Johnson?

Caroline Louise Bevan “Carrie” Johnson is a British political activist, environmentalist, and the wife of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She is a senior consultant for Oceana, a marine conservation charity.

In an Instagram post, Mrs Johnson wrote:

“At the beginning of this year, I had a miscarriage, which made me heartbroken.

“I feel very lucky to be pregnant again, but I also feel like a bag of nerves.

“The issue of fertility is really difficult for many people, especially on platforms like Instagram. Everything seems to be going well.

“I find it really comfortable to hear the voices of people who have also experienced loss, so I hope that sharing this in some very small way can also help others.”

Next to the post, she shared a photo of a blue carriage Christmas decoration.

The Labour Party leader Sir Kil Starmer congratulated the couple on Twitter and said he regretted the news of Mrs Johnson’s earlier miscarriage, adding that he was sure she would comfort others by speaking out.

“My best wishes to both of them,” he said.

The couple married at a small wedding at Westminster Abbey in May this year-which made Johnson the first prime minister to get married for the duration of his tenure in nearly 200 years. This is Mr Johnson’s third marriage.
The Prime Minister had previously married Marina Wheeler and had four children. He and his first wife Allegra Mostyn-Owen have no children. In recent years, the Prime Minister has given birth to several children during his tenure.

Tony Blair and his wife Cherie welcomed their fourth child, Leo, in 2000, three years after the Labour Party leader won by a landslide.

In 2010, David Cameron and his wife Samantha gave birth to a young daughter Florence.
