Exclusive: Russian state hackers suspected of targeting Biden campaign company-source

According to three people familiar with the matter, Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.O) recently warned Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden (Joe Biden). One of the main campaign consulting companies, that it has been targeted by suspected Russian state-backed hackers.

According to sources, the targets of these hacks were the staff of SKDKnickerbocker. A campaign strategy and communications company that worked with Biden and other prominent Democrats in the past two months.

A person familiar with SKDK’s response to these attempts said that the hackers failed to gain access to the company’s network. The person said: “They defended well, so they did not violate the agreement.”

SKDK vice-chairman Hilary Rosen declined to comment. A Biden spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied that these allegations were “nonsense”. Moscow has repeatedly denied using hacking methods to interfere with elections in other countries.

US intelligence agencies have warned against possible efforts by foreign governments to interfere in the November presidential election.

Investigations by former special counsel Robert Mueller and the Senate Intelligence Committee. Both concluded that subordinates of the Russian government intervened in the 2016 presidential election in an attempt to help Republican Donald Trump get elected.

Mueller warned that Russia is interfering in the current campaign.

The three sources said the attacks included phishing. A hacking method designed to trick users into divulging passwords. And other measures to penetrate the SKDK network.

A Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment.

The company has extraordinary insights into digital threats through the widely used Windows operating system. And cloud services such as Office 365 and has played an increasingly active role in cyber espionage campaigns calling for government support.

Defense of Democracy” program:

In 2018, the company launched its “Defense of Democracy” program, which aims to partially protect hacker activities. SKDK has close ties with the Democratic Party and has participated in six presidential campaigns and many congressional campaigns. In addition to currently working for Biden, the company also worked for successful governor campaigns in Kansas and Connecticut in 2018.
