When your Weekend marches toward its completion, the Super Bowl halftime show in 2021 will have quite the excitement.
That’s because, at Super Bowl 55 in Tampa, Florida, The Weekend (no, there’s no mistake there) will perform as the newest in a long line of high-end musical artists to take the stage halfway through the football action of the Super Bowl. In its repertoire, The Weekend brings a wide variety of musical genres that should make for a halftime display that at your Super Bowl party has some appeal for everyone.
The Weekend is a Canadian artist with Abel Makkonen Tesfaye as his real name. According to Tesfaye, his stage name comes from being a dropout from high school who “left one weekend and never came home.” The third ‘e’ is absent only because there is already a Canadian band known as The Weekend, so the spelling was changed to prevent copyright problems.
Shakira and Jennifer Lopez took the stage a year ago for the Miami halftime show. While at Bruno Mars’ location, The Weeknd is not quite an entertainer; his halftime appearance will remind many of Bruno’s varied setlist at the 2014 Super Bowl.

Who will perform during Super Bowl 55’s halftime?
During halftime of Super Bowl 55, The Weeknd will play. The Weeknd, a Canadian singer-songwriter whose full name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, could carry an extensive setlist to the Tampa, Florida stage.
There have been no reports about other stars, but at some point during the halftime show, a second star typically makes its way onto the stage. The Weeknd will precede a 2020 halftime show featuring Shakira and Jennifer Lopez in Miami.
