Helicopter crash kills General Rawat, Narendra Modi mourns

New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his displeasure over the Tamil Nadu tragedy, calling Indian Chief General Bipin Rawat the best soldier and patriot.

New Delhi: An Army helicopter crashed in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, killing 13 people, including Indian Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat, and injuring 14 others.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his sadness over the death of the Indian Chief of Defense Staff in his tweet, saying “I am saddened by the helicopter crash, my prayers are with the bereaved families.”

“We lost General Bipin Rawat, his wife and other members of the armed forces,” Modi said.

He wrote in his tweet that General Bipin Rawat was a great soldier and a true patriot, he helped a lot in modernizing our armed forces and security equipment.

Modi said that his insights and views on strategic issues were extraordinary. He was deeply saddened by his demise. India will never forget the extraordinary services rendered by General Rawat.

It may be recalled that the Indian Air Force has confirmed that the helicopter had 14 people on board, including Indian Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat, including Bipin Rawat’s family and his crew.

In his tweets on the microblogging site, the Indian Prime Minister said that General Bipin Rawat was a great soldier and a true patriot. He said that as India’s first Chief of Defense Staff, General Rawat had worked on various aspects of our armed forces, including defense reform.

He brought with him the full experience of serving in the Army, India will never forget his extraordinary services.
