Kobe Bryant, one among the best basketball players of all time and an internationally recognizable NBA superstar, died during a helicopter crash Sunday outside Los Angeles. He was 41 years old.
Helicopter crash
According to the Associated Press, Kobe Bryant was flying with his thirteen-year-old daughter and seven other people when the helicopter crashed in a remote field in Calabasas around 10 a.m. His daughter’s name was Gianna.
All nine passengers aboard the helicopter were killed, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told. Alex Villanueva said that it would be entirely inappropriate right now to identify all people by name.
“God bless their souls,” Alex Villanueva said.
Reaction
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said that he had been one of the most extraordinary players in the history of basketball. He also said that he would remember most for inspiring people around the world to pick up a basketball.
“There are no words to reveal the pain I am going through,” tweeted Lakers teammate Shaquille O’Neal. O’Neal won three NBA titles with Bryant. “Kobe Bryant, I love you, and everyone will miss you. … IM SICK RIGHT NOW.”
“Man, I do not even know where to start,” tweeted superstar Joel Embiid.
NBA legend Michael Jordan said that he had loved Kobe, and he had been like a litter brother to her.
He retired in 2016 as the third-leading scorer in NBA history, finishing 20 years with the Lakers as a prolific scorer.
During his twenty-year NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant won five championships. Kobe was league MVP in 2008 and was one among the game’s all-time highest scorers.
Kobe married Vanessa Laine in 2001. The couple had four daughters together: Natalia, Bianka, Gianna, and Capri.
He leaves behind his wife, Vanessa Laine, and his three daughters Natalia seventeen-year-old, Bianka, three-year-old, and Capri, only seven months old.
After his retirement, Bryant has become an investor and also has supported youth sports.
After his retirement, Kobe Bryant worked on writing children’s books. He started his publishing company, “Granity Studios.”. He devoted all his time to his daughters, and he left daily at 2 p.m. to pick them up from school, and after his duty, he came to work around 3:30 p.m.
A Coach and Mother
Christina Mauser, an assistant girls basketball coach, also died in the crash. Christina Mauser was a basketball coach in Orange County.
Her husband said that he and his kids had been devastated. He had lost his wife and mother that day in a helicopter crash.
A Baseball Coach, his Daughter and Wife
OCC (Orange Coast College) baseball coach John Altobelli, his daughter, Alyssa, and his wife Keri, also died in the helicopter crash, said Tony Altobelli, brother of Altobelli.
Gianna (Kobe Bryant’s daughter) and Alyssa were teammates at the Mamba Academy.
A mother and his daughter
Payton and her mother Sarah Chester also died in the crash, according to a Facebook post by Todd Schmidt, principal at Harbor View Elementary School.
