New Apple Leak Reveals iPhone 14 Design Shock.
A number of changes have already been revealed in iPhone 14 leaks, ranging from the radical and controversial to the expensive and bizarre. However, Apple may have just revealed its shocking design decision.
The Elec, a respected news site, revealed that the iPhone 14 will – once again – be without the 120Hz ProMotion display. Even on mid-range smartphones, high refresh rate displays are common, so that’s a big risk.
According to The Elec, Apple screen supplier BOE will be increasing its business with the company because “it will be supplying low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED panels for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 series.”
Older iPhone models such as the iPhone X, iPhone 11, and iPhone 12 as well as the standard iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini used LTPS displays, all of which had a 60Hz refresh rate. Apple uses LPTO panels exclusively for ProMotion displays.

The reason for this is that LPTO panels are capable of variable refresh rates, so they can counteract the battery drain of high refresh rates with low rates when reading emails. Apple likes to pair the functionality of its non-Pro models unless it wants to break with tradition. Therefore, it seems likely that the new iPhone 14 Max will also have an LTPS panel based on The Elec’s news that the iPhone 14 will have one.
People who want ProMotion can get an iPhone 14 Pro model, but it isn’t that straightforward this year. There have been recent leaks that reveal iPhone 14 Pro models will feature a polarizing i-shape cutout for the notch, and they are also expected to be more expensive.
In 2022, iPhone fans will have some tough decisions to make.
