It is with extraordinary trouble to share the news that our Colby Cave passed away early today. Both our families are in stun but realize our Colby was cherished truly by us, his loved ones, the whole hockey network, and some more. We thank everybody for their prayers during this troublesome time.

On Colby’s death, Gary Bettman (NHL commissioner) said:
The National Hockey League family grieves the appalling passing of Colby Cave, whose life and hockey profession. However, excessively short, were inspiringly symbolic of the best of our game.
Colby was persistent in the quest for his hockey dream with both the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers associations.
A sincere and persevering player, he was respected by his colleagues and mentors. Progressively significant, he was a warm and liberal individual who was popular with every one of those blessed enough to know him.
We send our ardent sympathies to his significant wife, Emily, their families, and Colby’s innumerable companions all through the hockey world.
