Real Madrid made a return to be at the top La Liga via head-to-head record on Sunday over Real Sociedad.

Zinedine Zidane Handed James Rodrigues, a rare start, Real Madrid knew at the win would place over the Catalan rivals who made a drew with Sevilla on Friday.

However, Socie’s dad fans were frustrated in the opening half as sixth-placed Real Sociedad showed quite a fight against the Madrid giants in a goalless first half.

Vinicius Junior, who was handed a great start by Zidane on the night, drew a foul in the plenty area in the second half as Sergio Ramos stepped up to convert the spot-kick to give Real the lead they needed to become the highest-scoring defender in the history of La Liga with a history with 68 goals.

However, Ramos left the game after an injury shortly after a hard collision with Sociedad’s Alexandar Isak, with teammate Eder Militao coming on in the 60th minute for the Madrid captain.

Karim Benzema doubled the lead of the Real Madrid’s lead in the 70 th minute after settling across over the Sociedad defense, turning and firing a home a goal that was followed by a VAR check for a handball.

The hosting team clawed one just back after the 80-minute mark when the Mikel Merino found himself alone at the far post. He fired a goal with a close-range to half the deficit.

Zidane’s team had benefitted with the Valencia goal that was chalked off for an offside.

Merino Statment:

Merino said:
”We’re angry with everything but mainly with the way we lost because the little details and the big moments went against us,” said Merino.

I was at least five meters from [Thibaut] Courtois when I was flagged offside. I don’t know if the same thing would have happened had it been in the other area, but the flag went up, and we feel that we have been wronged.”

”In my opinion, we were the superior team against an adamant opponent, we knew how to cope with them and how to hold on to our lead,” said the Uruguayan.
