Trump’s physician says the president’s oxygen levels have dropped and he is receiving steroid treatment

The president posted another aimless video saying that he “learned a lot” about the virus, and then drove quickly to wave to supporters outside the hospital building where he was being treated. The conflicting remarks of his doctor and assistant made his condition more confusing.

According to a memo from his doctor, President Trump received a promising experimental drug to treat Covid-19 on Friday, and later went to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he was expected to stay for a few days.

The president tweeted in a short video message shortly after arriving at Walter Reed, and he looked tired. He declared that he “did well” and suggested that he go to the hospital just as a precaution.

“I think I did a good job, but we want to make sure everything goes well.” Trump added: “The first lady did a good job.” This is Mr. Trump’s first tweet since announcing last Friday that he and his wife Melania Trump have tested positive for the virus.

Mr. Trump returned to Twitter on Friday evening and wrote a short tweet: “I think it’s good! Thank you. Love!!!”

Wearing a blue suit, tie and mask, the President walked to the Marines on the lawn of the White House and found no signs of difficulty. He did not comment on nearby reporters, but gave thumbs up.

After landing at Walter Reed after 6:30 in the afternoon, he entered S.U.V. The drive from the landing site to the medical institution was a short drive.

Two people close to Mr. Trump said the president had a low-grade fever, nasal congestion and cough.

According to White House spokesman Judd Deere, he does not intend to hand over power to Vice President Mike Pence. He said: “The President is in charge.” Mrs. Trump reported mild symptoms.

Preliminary results indicate that using Regeneron’s therapy as early as possible during the infection process can reduce the level of the virus in the body.
