A video of Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin partying has been leaked online.
Known for spending too much time at festivals and clubs, the 36-year-old is the country’s youngest leader.
An Instagram Story video shows Marin drinking with friends, dancing and singing along to songs by Finnish rapper Petri Nygård and pop singer Antti Tuisku.
The video features several Finnish public figures, including the singer Alma, influencer Janita Autio, TV host Tinni Wikström, YouTuber Ilona Ylikorpi, and radio host Karoliina Tuominen, stylist Vesa Silver, and Social Democratic MP Ilmari Nurminen, according to the Iltalehti newspaper.
“Based on the videos, it is not possible to say for sure when and where they were filmed,” the newspaper wrote.
“It looks like the videos were taken in a private apartment. Iltalehti could not reach Marin or her staff to comment on the videos. Marin’s partying and social media publicity, which differs from the traditional style of prime minister, has attracted a lot of attention and discussion.”
Having come into contact with a Covid case last year, Ms Marin had to apologize for clubbing until 4 am.
Despite being told that she didn’t need to isolate since she had been fully vaccinated, the PM went out for dinner and drinks just hours after her Foreign Minister tested positive. She later missed a text that advised that she should isolate.
“I am very sorry for not understanding that I needed to do that,”
Her government phone had received the text message, not her personal phone. Consequently, she missed it.
For national security reasons, critics said she should have kept her government phone with her at all times.
“She is the most important politician in her country, has to lead it through one of the most dangerous crises of her time because of the warlike activity of her neighbour Russia – and still finds time to celebrate,” the paper wrote.
“Casual, modern and self-confident – that’s how politics can work. Marin stands for the ‘cool generation’, which Putin definitely doesn’t like.”
