X-Men and Designated Survivor actor Adan Canto dies at 42 from cancer

Adan Canto, a renowned actor recognized for his roles in prominent US television series such as Designated Survivor and notable films like X-Men: Days of Future Past, has passed away at the age of 42.

The talented Mexican actor succumbed to appendiceal cancer, as confirmed by his spokesperson.

In Designated Survivor, Canto portrayed the character of the national security adviser alongside Kiefer Sutherland, who fondly remembered him as “such a wonderful spirit.”

Canto’s involvement in the 2014 X-Men film showcased his portrayal of the mutant Sunspot. Notably, co-star Halle Berry was impressed by his talent and subsequently cast him in her film Bruised.

The entertainment industry mourns the loss of Adan Canto, remembering him for his impactful contributions and the indelible mark he left on both television and cinema.

“Beloved friend”

The actress and director expressed on Instagram: “Finding the words is difficult right now… but my cherished friend Adan has just earned his wings. He will always have a special spot in my heart.

Stephanie Ann, Canto’s wife, shared a picture of the couple along with a Bible passage, adding, “Adan, you are my eternal treasure. Until we meet again.”

In an official statement, publicist Jennifer Allen remarked, “Adan possessed a profound spirit that only a few truly understood. Those who caught a glimpse were forever changed. Many will keenly feel his absence.

In his heartfelt message, Sutherland remarked, “As an actor, Adan’s unwavering commitment to excellence, the pursuit of greatness, and continuous self-improvement were truly remarkable. His absence will be deeply felt. My condolences go out to his wife, Steph, and their two young children. Adan, may you find eternal peace.”

Canto portrayed Aaron Shore in Designated Survivor, initially airing on ABC in 2016-17, later picked up by Netflix for a concluding third season.

Maggie Q, his co-star, expressed, “Dear friend, you were a person of a caliber that exceeded Hollywood’s deserving. Your kindness, warmth, and boundless spirit, coupled with unwavering dedication to your family and a commitment to always doing what’s right – your moral compass was unparalleled. I can’t fathom this loss. Anyone fortunate enough to know you was truly blessed. That much I understand.”

Italia Ricci, a fellow cast member from Designated Survivor, expressed her profound shock, stating, “I’m utterly speechless. He embodied strength in every aspect, and it’s infuriating that this has happened. No one deserved this less than this kind, brilliant, and gentle soul…

“I offer my deepest sympathies to all who are navigating the pain of this profound loss, and my heartfelt thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.” You will always hold a place in my heart.”

Canto later took on the role of gangster Arman Morales in Fox’s 2022 crime drama, The Cleaning Lady.

“He’ll forever remain our Arman,” Fox shared on X. “Adan Canto, your memory will be treasured eternally.

“A loss beyond comprehension.”

In a collective statement, Fox and Warner Bros Television expressed, “He was not only a wonderful actor but also a dear friend of ours.”

“His recent remarkable performance in The Cleaning Lady truly illuminated the screen, showcasing his exceptional artistry, versatility, depth, and vulnerability,” the networks remarked.

“This profound departure defies understanding, and our hearts ache in shared sorrow with his wife Stephanie, their children, and those close to them.” Adan will be profoundly missed.”

Canto marked his breakthrough in the US through the Fox thriller The Following alongside Kevin Bacon in 2013, and he graced the screens in the ABC sitcom Mixology and the drama Blood & Oil.

His notable roles extended to portraying Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in Netflix’s Narcos, and he added to his film credits with the spy thriller Agent Game in 2022.
